CRI听力:Shenzhen Universiade Set Ready for the Opening

2011-08-12来源:CRI

The Shenzhen Universiad is going to be the largest in the event's history as it has received more than 12,000 registration applications from 152 countries and regions.

Claude-Lous Gallien, the newly-elected president of the International University Sports Federation, believes the Shenzhen Universiad is going to be a magnificent and spectacular experience for both the athletes and the spectators.

"We will have the biggest TV coverage, as far as FISU knows, in history. As the host broadcaster, UBS will provide a live feed from 20 sporting events out of 24 to maybe hundreds of millions of homes around the globe. "

Equipped with modern technologies, the media coverage of the Shenzhen Universiad will be able to reach hundreds of millions of people via the conventional TV broadcasting and the most cutting edge smart phones.

Besides the efforts to make it one of the best in the history, the organizer also attached great importance to ensuring the games will operate smoothly.

Wang Mei, the spokesperson of Shenzhen Universiade Organizing Committee, says they will guarantee the food safety for athletes during the events.

"The Shenzhen committee proposed an objective which entailed 'three zeros': zero accidents, zero broken supply chains and zero complaints. In combination with the zeros, we also have 'three antis' that is anti-virus, anti-doping and work practices leading to anti-food-spoilage."

The organizer has centralized meals in the dining restaurant in the Universiade Village to ensure they're prepared according to strict requirements, and the procurement and supply of ingredients have been strictly controlled.

Meanwhile, the preparations for different events are also underway before the opening ceremony.

As a prelude to the mysterious torch-lighting ceremony, the torch relay was held in Shenzhen yesterday.

Huang Guoqiang, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Organizing committee, says the virtual relay when combined with the real, physical delivery of the torch, is pioneering a new model for the torch relay.

"The torch has been passed in virtual form online in a simple, stylish and interactive way. This represents a positive and useful step for the creation of large-scale international sports events to pass their own torches."

As of yesterday, the virtual torch has been transferred over 10 million times, covering 90 percent of China's colleges and universities.

Besides the innovative torch relay, the unique opening ceremony is also expected to attract attention from people around the world.

It will have neither fireworks nor super stars and will take college athletes as the main emphasis.

It is also a reflection of the theme of this Shenzhen Universiade-simple, green and low carbon.
