CRI听力:Lord Coe Promotes Green Olympics on Bicycle
Cameras flash as Lord Sebastian Coe, head of Britain's Olympic Committee arrives at the UK Embassy in Beijing on a bicycle.
"how do you like the bicycle?"
"Very good bike. Very sustainable."
"Why bicycles?"
"Absolutely the right thing. Bicycles are probably the most sustainable source of transport of any city. You have them in London and I think it's a great initiative."
British Ambassador Sebastian Wood was not far behind. And he was equally enthusiastic.
"My aim is, when I next go for a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I shall arrive on this bicycle."
Inside the embassy, Lord Coe talked of how he'd been inspired by the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
"There is much that we have learnt from the extraordinary quality of the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games. The forensic eye for detail, the fact that you, with my emotional commitment, put the athletes absolutely at the centre of the project. And in Mr Wang Wei you had an extraordinary team leader and somebody that is now helping London as a member of our coordination commission to help us deliver a games that you set us such a tough task to equal."
Lord Coe was in Beijing to attend the International Paralympic General Assembly, recently launched by the Mayor of Beiing, Guo Jinlong. But he said it was wrong to compare the London Olympics with games in Beijing.
"Every games is different. Every games, as the Chinese games, the Beijing games, is different. They were distinctively about Beijing and distinctively about China, yet international. And the London games will, of course, be distinctively about Britain, but international. And the London games will be distinctive and different because London is distinctive and different."
During his stay in Beijing Lord Coe visited the training facilities of young Chinese athletes from the swimming and badminton teams. Many of whom will be hoping to compete in London next year.
