CRI听力:What Chinese Badminton Team Harvests in Olympics

2012-08-09来源:CRI

London's Olympic badminton event broke the biggest record when China's team swept up all five of the gold medals.

Lin Dan, or China's 'super dan', won the fourth gold medal for the Chinese badminton team in men's singles final.

"I think this is the Golden Age for the Chinese badminton team. And I'm glad that I can be part of it. If we are lucky enough to pocket all five gold medals, we should embrace it whole-heartedly."

Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng made Lin Dan's wish come true, winning the last gold medal in the men's doubles final.

"I felt proud, because we, and Lin Dan, are the only people to take part in all five Thomas Cups. Also, we are always the players on the top list of men's doubles and men's singles. This is a great moment for all of us. And we might still have a chance to make history. "

However, there have always been some concerns over how China dominates some events like table tennis and badminton.

Mogensen, men's doubles silver medal winner from Danmark, thought China's domination happened for a reason.

"We are very proud to be part of this final. Of course, we are a little bit disappointed right now. But if you ask me again in an hour, I think I'll be very happy for the silver medal."

His partner Mathias Boe added that China, with 1.3 billion people, can provide more resources than Denmark for athletes to develop. It's not a surprise that China has become so strong in this sport.

And Liu Fengyan from the General Administration of Sport of China says there is more positive influence than negative.

"Such an achievement is not a coincidence. Two years ago in the IBF World Championships, we also showed our strengths by winning 5 gold medals in a row. I think we have helped boost the sport of badminton. And this has proved it. Even in the finals, where all the players were Chinese, we won the applause of the audience because they enjoyed a match of the highest standard in the world."

But it's a pity that, besides the super performance of the Chinese team, disputes concerning passive play remain. Men's doubles silver medal winner. Mathias Boe.

"Of course, people will remember the scandal. It was the first time that people, including people in the United States, talked about badminton, not just in Denmark and Asia but all around the world. It's not good that our sport is known for such things, because, you know, it's such a great sport, and it's so demanding. It's not good that it is known for scandal instead of how difficult it actually is and how big the sport actually is."

For CRI, I'm DLL.
