CRI听力:Book Fair Promotes Co-op in Publishing Trade

2012-08-30来源:CRI

The annual Beijing International Book Fair is one of the four big international book fairs which also include Frankfurt, London and the Book Expo America.

Xu Zhaoxing, a project editor with the Anhui University Press Company, is seeking advice from several international publishers at the event.

"Our publishing house plans to introduce a series of English-learning books. According to its level of complexity, we will decide if we use it directly or send it for further editing before it goes to domestic readers. So, I bear this goal in mind so I can gain a clearer picture of good educational products from international publishers."

Xu explained that she had joined many other book fairs as a student reader. Now that she works as an editor, she keeps her eye on market value and potential cooperation.

Zeng Kunxian, who works for a library in Taipei, says he is not only look for potential cooperation at the book fair, but also trying to gather more information on local libraries.

"It's my first visit to the Beijing International Book Fair, during which, my colleagues and I need to be updated on new books in other nations to provide a reference for the publishing industry in Taiwan and our local libraries, as they are enriching their collections."

This year's Fair is more geared toward international publishers looking for a way into China.

The UK-based publishing house Express Publishing is taking part in the book fair for the first time.

Jim Psicharis, who works for the compay, says they hope to explore the Chinese market by exhibiting their English-learning books.

"It's a first time for us here. So, we have very high expectations. We are making our first steps here. But you know, China is a very big country. With all of its culture and all these traditional elements here, we hope that we can help Chinese people get better at English."

The book fair runs from Wednesday until this weekend, with South Korea as this year's guest country.
