CRI听力:Science, Technology to Promote Economic Growth btw China and ASEAN
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Economic Cooperation between ASEAN and China and also the Year of China-ASEAN Science and Technology Cooperation.
Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said at the opening ceremony of the China-ASEAN Summit that China and ASEAN countries should further improve Free Trade Area development.
"China should take the current China-ASEAN science and technology cooperation year as an opportunity to strengthen economic and technological cooperation within the FTA framework, deepen industrial cooperation and improve the intraregional allocation of resources."
China and the 10 ASEAN member countries launched a plan on Saturday that will see them cooperate in fields of science and technology. The key areas of cooperation include a national science development strategy, information technology and space technology.
At present, CAEXPO has become an important platform for friendly exchanges, business promotion and bilateral cooperation.
Gao Qingqiang, an engineer from the Fujian Academy of Building Research, introduced his organization's ecological concrete at the Expo. He said that current building products must be environmentally and ecologically friendly, and that the homegrown technology his firm used to produce its concrete was now one of the top technologies in the world.
"We'd like to take this opportunity to introduce advanced Chinese products and technologies to the ASEAN countries and communicate with them."
Peng Jianming, a technician from China Environmental Project Tech Inc., said that science and technology were major factors in helping enterprises and countries to grow the economy.
"Technology is the impetus and also is the essence of the enterprises. So based on the essence of Chinese enterprises, we should promote our technologies at the international level and keep pace with the times."
The special themes of the expo have attracted a huge number of businesspeople from the science and technology fields, who are seeking business opportunities.
Lena Sitepu is a businessperson from Indonesia. She said she came to China for the expo, because she wanted to learn how to develop a business here and see advanced Chinese technologies.
"So much knowledge we've gotten from here. We are checking out the technology and equipment that we can use in my country. Of course, I will introduce Chinese technologies to my country."
The more than 300,000 businesspeople who attended the past eight expos have signed trade deals worth more than 11 billion U.S. dollars.
This year's expo will be held from September 21st to 25th.
