CRI听力:Strong Public Criticism on Japan's Nuke Power Policy
Japanese residents are protesting against the country's nuclear power policy following revelations that over 300 tons of contaminated water flow daily from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea.
Japan's authorities confirmed that the radioactive water has been entering the sea at least since June.
Many residents gathered in front of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to protest against the government's lack of action.
"The government has done nothing for such an important matter, and it even concealed the information until the end of the election. I cannot forgive such a government, such an Atomic Energy Commission or the Tokyo Electric Power Company."
The nuclear plant's operator, the Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, only started pumping the contaminated water this Friday.
It is expected that it will take at least several months for TEPCO start pumping tainted water from two other contaminated areas near the coast.
TEPCO estimates that up to about 100 tons of contaminated water is leaking into the Pacific Ocean every day.
