CRI听力:Weishi, A New Way of Sharing Videos
The new app is called Weishi, which was launched this summer.
The app allows users to create and post 8-second video clips online.
The camera starts rolling when the user presses the screen, making it much easier to shoot and share.
"Because the videos in Weishi are very interesting and you can also shoot short videos. But the Weibo microblog only has text and picture. Video has much more fun."
With the rapid adoption of smartphones, demand for mobile video technology has been growing.
The new Weishi app can be used via Tencent's Weixin, or WeChat application, or via QQ.
Designer Wang Dan is one of the first converts to the new Weishi app.
"At the beginning, I used the app because it could realize your ideas. But now some people like it, some make comments on every post, which encourages me to continue to shoot and share."
Li Fang is Tencent.com's deputy editor-in-chief.
He says the company widely expects the new Weishi app to catch on.
"The product is still fresh in domestic market. The possibility of the market is unknown to anyone until the last few months."
He says the technology in the new app may eventually be incorporated directly into the Weixin or QQ programs.
Li Fang says Tencent is confident the new technology will be very popular among users.
"When users get accustomed to Weishi, the new way of sharing, with the spread of hotspot and smartphones, I believe the demand is huge."
The new Weishi app is modeled along the same lines as Twitter's Vine video program, which allows users to create 6-second videos.
