CRI听力:Volunteer Happy to Be Helpful
A host of volunteer social workers recently gathered in downtown Beijing to help sell paintings and craftworks made by disabled people.
Funds raised help disabled people through an aid project jointly run by the Beijing Volunteer Federation and Amway China, a United States-based direct-selling company.
60-year-old Liang Guojun, one of the volunteers, said she's pleased to help disabled people because she knows she's needed.
"I joined to provide three batches of sign language training sessions for the hearing impaired community. They are now good translators at different events, including job fairs for the disabled. I got a sense of achievement too. I am happy that I would be helpful and needed by others."
According the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, China was home to over 40 million registered volunteers at the end of November. The committee also predicts that the number of volunteers will exceed 60 million by 2018.
