CRI听力:China Urges Japan to Correct Mistakes Concerning Abe's Shrine Visit
The Chinese government is urging Japan to correct its mistakes concerning Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to the notorious Yasukuni Shrine.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying.
"We hope that the Japanese government value the core interests of its people and its country, value peace and stability and be responsible for its words and actions. If the Japanese leaders continue challenging international justice and human conscience, we would definitely continue to oppose every step of the way."
The comment comes after the Japanese government claims today that Shinzo Abe's visit was his personal action, not representing his role as the Prime Minister.
Hua Chunying says that Abe's words and actions challenge the international order, established after World War two.
"Abe's recent words and actions are hypocritical, arrogant and self-contradictory. While claiming morality, peace, and dialogue, Abe is actually glorifying Japan's history of military invasion and colonization, expanding its military forces, which have denied and challenged the international order after World War Two. "
China's ministry of defense earlier responded that the army is on alert because of Japan's military expansion.
Geng Yansheng is spokesperson for the ministry of defense.
"We express our indignation towards Japanese politician's behaviors, which have hurt those victims of the World War Two and challenged justice and human conscious. The Chinese side expresses its criticism toward the Japanese side. Japan should be responsible for its actions."
The South Korean government also expressed a strong stance on Abe's visit to the shrine.
The US has now expressed its disappointment over Shinzo Abe's visit, too.
Catherine Ashton, the European Union's foreign policy chief, called the visit harmful to regional peace, saying it will make it more difficult for Japan to mend its relationships with neighboring countries.
Many politicians in Japan also have been critical of their Prime Minister.
