CRI听力:Expert Warns of Possibility of H7N9 Human-to-human Transmissions

2014-01-25来源:CRI

A leading Chinese respiratory expert is warning the authorities to pay close attention to the possibility of H7N9 human-to-human transmissions, even though none have so-far been reported.

Zhong Nanshan, director of the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases, says the current spread of the H7N9 strain of bird flu is different from previous Avian Influenza outbreaks.

"However, we still can't totally rule out the possibility even if the above situations are nonexistent in recent cases. There is a term called 'limited human-to-human transmission' which needs to be paid close attention. People should keep distance with those who contacted with H7N9 patient before showing a sign of fever."

His comment comes amid the recent uptick in human infection of the H7N9 bird flu.

5 new confirmed cases of the H7N9 avian influenza virus have been uncovered in Zhejiang yesterday alone.

New cases of the potentially-deadly virus have been surfacing every day in that province for the last 15-days.

So far 37-people in Zhejiang have come down with the new strain of Bird Flu so far this year.

Authorities in Zhejiang's capital Hangzhou are shutting down live poultry markets in the city in an effort to stop the spread of the latest deadly strain of the Bird Flu.

Local authorities have also launched a massive disinfection campaign.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Shanghai, 2-more people have died from the virus.

This brings the death toll from H7N9 in Shanghai up to 4 this year from the 8-people confirmed infected with the virus.

Researchers here in China are warning the virus is likely to continue to spread during the forthcoming Spring Festival holiday as people become more transient and have more contact with potential virus transfer sources.
