CRI听力:U.N. Mediator to Talk with Syrian Gov't, Opposition
UN mediator Lakhdar Brahimi is set to have separate meetings with delegates from the Syrian government and the opposition, later today in Geneva.
A UN spokesperson says the process of negotiation didn't go on as foreseen in the beginning.
The first full day of the peace talks was scheduled to be a face-to-face meeting between the government and the opposition.
The two camps remain divided about the ultimate status of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The Syrian opposition is insisting on his removal from office, while the Syrian government remains unwilling to discuss the possibility of him stepping down.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, attending the ongoing peace talks, says headway has been made but there are still many hurdles ahead.
China's foreign minister has met separately with representatives from the Syrian government and the SNC.
