CRI听力:Prince William Attends United for Wildlife Symposium
A major international conference on illegal wildlife trade is due to begin in London later today.
Ahead of the meeting, Britain's Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge has attended a symposium on international wildlife trafficking in London.
Prince William is also President of 'United for Wildlife', an organization that campaigns to prevent endangered species from being hunted to extinction.
"The forces that are currently destroying some of the world's endangered species are sophisticated and powerful. But this week we are seeing the creation of an equally powerful alliance coming together to help fight them. The commitments set out today will begin to address the challenges of protection, enforcement and demand reduction. We will use our combined resources to ensure they succeed."
High-level delegations from about 50 countries are to join the conference, including China.
Chinese authorities have recently seized tons of illegal animal products and arrested over 400 suspects in a sting against international wildlife crime.
During the operation, China has for the first time sent enforcement staff to Kenya to arrest an ivory trafficking suspect.
China called for an international crackdown on wildlife crime in 2012, and led the first operation which involved 22 countries in early 2013.
