CRI听力:Tennis Lovers Host World-record Breaking Lesson

2014-03-09来源:CRI

I apologize for not wishing you all this yesterday, but Happy World Tennis Day... yesterday.

Tennis lovers around the world celebrated in various ways. Over in Hong Kong, there were some special matches arranged for the occasion.

Two-time Grand Slam winner Lleyton Hewitt played and defeated Tomas Berdych, who just finished runner-up at the Dubai Championship.

In another match, Australia's Samantha Stosur played and beat fellow Grand Slam winner Li Na.

But another way of celebrating the day is to host the largest tennis lesson on the planet.

Somebody official decided at some point that breaking the world record for the number of children who receive a tennis lesson in one place at one time would be a neat idea.

So four hundred and six little ankle-biters gathered at the Billie King national tennis center, home of the U.S. Open, to learn tennis.

Two-time major winner Andy Murray's mom was even there.

"I think it was such a great idea to come up with an opportunity to beat a world record - I mean kids are going to get excited about that aren't they - but to do it for World Tennis Day, on the day before you've got a big event with Andy (Murray) and Novak (Djokovic) playing at Madison Square Garden in New York... yeah, it was a brainwave of somebody, and it was great to be part of it. I still can't believe we're more that 400 children here in one venue."

Most of the kids were from local youth organizations, and you never know what kind of future talents might have been born at that world-record breaking lesson.
