CRI听力:UNCTAD Secretary General Speaks Highly of CIFTIS

2014-06-06来源:CRI

The annual meeting of the China Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services, or CIFTIS, is being held this week.

Mukhisa Kituyi is Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, which is a permanent supporter of the fair.

Kituyi believes that the annual fair presents a move carried out by China designed to develop its own service sector.

"The decision to have a regular international forum, to discuss trends and development in the service industry, is an important step that China can sustain."

Nearly 2500 enterprises or institutions are attending the fair. Foreign participants make up 70 percent of those in attendance.

Kituyi says that China welcomes international service sectors to share in their experiences.

"We believe it's very important for China to continue offer leadership by creating space for players around the world to come and talk together about what are the scenarios in the service industry; what are the areas you can improve."

Meanwhile, Kituyi also advises that the Chinese service sector's future success relies upon the upgrading of the global value chain.

"Getting into high-value services is an important development. You may start offering design, other sophisticated logistical services, like management consulting, accounting services, legal services, these are areas where the development has not shown the maximum benefit from global value chains."

CIFTIS is a chance for major players within the service sector players to seek business opportunities. The annual meeting lasts for one week only, but the results expected from the event may play an important role in the future.
