CRI听力:German Holocaust Survivors Help People Remember Darkest Chapter of Human History

2014-07-07来源:CRI

A video interview program of German Holocaust survivors completed by the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is aiming to remind people worldwide not to forget the darkest chapter of human history.

In the interviews, survivors recalled their persecution in the hands of the Fascists and their horrible memories of that period of time.

Ruth Michel is one of those Holocaust survivors.

"I think it is my duty to speak. So I have been giving report at many places from the Yad Vashem to Ludwigsburg. I don't think I should just live idly. I must do something. To speak for those who cannot is my responsibility and obligation."

Launched in May 2007 and completed by the end of June, the video program, entitled "Speaking in Spite of Everything" has collected interviews of 73 Holocaust survivors including Jews, homosexuals, Romanies and anti-socials.

The interviewees, aged between 69 and 98, are currently living in countries including Germany, Israel, Greece, the United States and Austria.

All the video footage contains the complete recording of the interviews without any editing or change.

The total length of the video footage adds up to 221 hours, with the longest clip lasting more than 7 hours.

According to the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, all the video clips and scripts will be permanently kept as historical archives and displayed at the information center of the Memorial.

The materials will also be available online to all the viewers worldwide.
