CRI听力:Israel Vows to Continue Offensive on Gaza after Killing over 100 Palestinians

2014-07-14来源:CRI

Israel has vowed to press forward with a broad military offensive in the Gaza Strip after days of exchange of fire with the Hamas militant group.

Israel's air strikes have killed at least 100 Palestinians, including dozens of civilians, over the past several days.

There have been no deaths on the Israeli side, in large part because of a new rocket-defense system that has intercepted more than 100 incoming projectiles.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted that he's determined to stop rocket fire on Israel by Palestinian militants.

"No international pressure will prevent us acting with all our force against a terror organization that is calling for our destruction. We will continue to forcefully attack anyone who is trying to hurt us. We will continue to defend - both with determination and wisdom - our home front, the citizens of Israel."

Israel says it launched the offensive on Tuesday in response to weeks of heavy rocket fire out of Gaza, which has been ruled by Hamas since 2007.

The Israeli military says it has hit more than 1,100 targets, mostly what it identified as rocket-launching sites, bombarding the territory on average every five minutes.

Tensions between Israel and the Palestinians escalated at the end of last month after alleged murders of youths on both sides.
