CRI听力:25-thousand People Investigated on Corruption Suspicion
China's Supreme People's Procuratorate or SPP says prosecutors investigated more than 25-thousand people on suspicion of corruption in the first half of this year.
Xu Jinhui, chief of SPP's anti-graft bureau, says among those investigated more than 6,300 are officials, a year-on-year increase of 14 percent.
"From January to June, a total of 25,240 people were investigated for embezzlement, bribery-taking or bribery-offering. 1,676 officials at or above county level were investigated in the first six months, registering an increase of 32.3 percent from a year earlier."
Xu says prosecutors have tightened their crackdown on the practice of offering as well as taking bribes.
The official adds that the SPP will set up a leading working group to retrieve bribery funds from overseas, and build a database of information about fugitive officials.
Since late 2012, China has been carrying out a nationwide anti-graft campaign targeting both "tigers and flies," referring to high- and low-ranking corrupt officials.
