CRI听力:Russian Aid Convoy Heads for Luhansk

2014-08-15来源:CRI

A Russian aid convoy has resumed its travel towards Ukraine, and is reportedly advancing toward the rebel-held city of Luhansk.

The convoy of over 260 vehicles has been parked since late Tuesday amid a disagreement between Moscow and Kiev over how and where it can cross into Ukraine.

The Ukrainian government has demanded the convoy can only pass when it is under the control of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Andre Loersch is a spokesperson for the Red Cross in Ukraine.

"We don't know the final route of the aid. I tried to get information where exactly this convoy is right now before coming here, but I don't know the exact location still."

Ukraine and Russia had originally agreed the aid will be delivered to a government-controlled crossing in Ukraine's Kharkiv province.

But that deal collapsed after Ukraine accused Moscow of plotting to use the convoy as a cover for an invasion.

Russia calls the accusation absurd, saying it has coordinated the dispatch of goods with the Red Cross.

The 2-thousand tons of aid is being sent in response to a growing humanitarian crisis taking place in Luhansk.

Local authorities say the city has entered an 11th straight day without power, with only the most essential goods available.
