The wind reached speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour and some waves were over five meters high.
Mainland authorities sent three support ships to guarantee swimmers' safety and the relay resumed.
The tenth relay swimmer Ge Yu talks of his feeling before his journey.
"I will keep a normal pace. Judging from the current situation, I need to first get used to the waves. If I feel exhausted, I will tell the people on the support ship."
Three swimmers have finished their relay.
To ensure swimmers safety, the rules of the relay stipulate that if the wind speed exceeds 30 to 40 kilometers per hour then the relay must be suspended.
