"So it is considered that General Prayuth Chan-ocha has been endorsed by more than half of members in the National Legislative Assembly, and it is considered that this assembly has endorsed General Prayuth Chan-ocha to be appointed as the Prime Minister."
The new PM can select up to 35 cabinet members and will be tasked with forming an interim government.
The government is expected to start its work this coming month.
The appointment of Prayuth follows months of political deadlock between factions loyal to former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and the country's opposition parties, leading to mass protests which paralyzed the capital, Bangkok.
The inability of the political factions to come to a compromise, forcing the military to step-in and take control of the government.
