CRI听力:Celebrated UK Filmmaker Richard Attenborough Dies at Age 90
Renowned British actor and director Richard Attenborough died on Sunday at the age of 90.
Attenborough's son, Michael, first told BBC News of his father's death.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron issued a statement calling Attenborough "one of the greats of cinema"
Among the filmmaker's many accolades is helming the classic, "Gandhi," which earned the Oscar award for "best picture" in 1982.
In a career that spanned over half a century, Attenborough also acted in numerous classics, including "Brighton Rock," World War 2 prison thriller "The Great Escape," and director Steven Spielberg's blockbuster dinosaur epic, "Jurassic Park," as John Hammond, the park's creator.
Attenborough was appointed as a life-peer by Queen Elizabeth in 1993 for his work on the stage, as well as in front of and behind the camera.
According to the BBC, The filmmaker's family is expected to give a full statement on Monday, local time.
