CRI听力:Chinese Player Peng Shuai Advance to the Next Round
Day one of the US Open tennis tournament is drawing to a close in New York.
First round action on the women's side has seen an early Chinese battle, with Peng Shuai emerging victorious, cruising past compatriot Zheng Jie in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Peng Shuai will be facing fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanksa, after the Pole demolished Canadian Sharon Fichman in straight sets, 6-1, 6-love.
China's Zheng Saisai has advanced into the 2nd round.
The 20-year old dropped her first set against Switerland's Stephanie Voegele, but then recovered to take her first-round match 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
She has a date now with 14th seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the 2nd round.
China's Duan Yingying has been given an early exit, going down to a Russian qualifier in a 3-set battle.
In other action from the women's side on day 1, 2nd seeded Simona Halep of Romania was given a bit of an early challenge.
She ended up dropping her first set in a tie-breaker against American rookie Danielle Rose-Collins.
But Halep recovered, taking the match 6-7, 6-1, 6-2.
"Yeah, it's first time, so It's not easy. It's a little bit of pressure. I can say more pressure because everyone is telling me that I have chance to win this title. But still I'm very far. I have to take match by match and to see if I can win more matches here. Every match like today was tough, and every match is tough here. "
Sixth seeded German Angelique Kerber was also given a fright in the first round, needing a 3rd set tie-breaker to get past unknown Russian Ksenia Pervak 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
Venus Williams was also pushed to 3-sets by Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm before moving through.
On the men's side, Britian's Andy Murray is through into the 2nd round after getting past the Netherland's Robin Hasse in a 4-set victory.
France's Jo-Wilfred Tsonga is also into the 2nd round after dispatching Argentinian Juan Monaco in a 4-set match.
Third seeded Stan Wawrinka is through after a straight-sets victory in round-1.
Thirty sixth seeded Fernando Verdasco of Spain was pushed to the limit in round 1 by Slovenian Blaz Rola, but managed to advance in a 5-set marathon.
There have been a few upsets today on the men's draw.
Twenty sixth seeded Mikhail Youzney of Russia has been dispatched in the first round of the tournament, going down to rising Australian star Nick Kyrgios in 4-sets.
You may remember Kyrgios shocked the tennis world earlier this year at Wimbledon when the 19-year old dispatched both Raphael Nadal and France's Richard Gasquet to make it to the quarter finals.
24th seed Julien Betteneau has been bested by his French compatriot Benoit Paire in a 5-set dual.
And Czech veteran Radek Stepanek has been handed an early exit from the US Open after going down to unknown German qualifier Matthias Bachinger in straight-sets.
