Libya's outgoing parliament has voted to replace the current interim government with one headed by an Islamist-backed candidate.

Day two of the US Open in New York is coming to a conclusion, with another of China's so-called "Golden Flowers" bowing out of the women's singles event.

Zhang Shuai has become the latest Chinese representative to fall, going down to Germany's Mona Barthel in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-2.

22-year-old Wang Qiang has earned a career milestone, winning her first Grand Slam match at the U.S. Open, breezing past Poland's Paula Kania 6-2, 6-0.

Most of the seeded players taking part in Tuesday's action have made it through, including Ana Ivanovic, Petra Kvitova, Eugenie Bouchard, Victoria Azarenka and Sam Stosur.

There was one slight upset, with 20th seeded Russian Svetlana Kunetzova going down to New Zealander Marina Erakovic in three sets.

David Ferrer, Kei Nisikori, Richard Gasquet and Giles Simon all making it through.
