2014-08-29来源:CRI

Day 3 of the US Open has seen one of China's few remaining entrants in the tournament pull off a major upset.

Double's specialist Peng Shuai has advanced into the 3rd round of the singles event by upsetting 4th seeded Agnestzia Radwanska in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Peng, who - along with her double's partner, Hsieh Suwei from Taiwan, are expected to go deep into the doubles bracket, came into her singles match this morning with Radwanska ranked 40th in the world in singles.

This is the 2nd major in a row where Peng Shuai has played well, with the veteran advancing into the 4th round at Wimbledon this year.

Peng's 3rd round opponent is going to be someone she's very familiar with, world number 28 Roberta Vinci of Italy.

Vinci and her double's partner, fellow Italian Sara Errani, are currently ranked first in the world in women's double's, and have been involved in heated battles with Peng and Hsieh Suwei.

China's Zheng Saisai has seen her tournament come to an end in the 2nd round at Flushing Meadows.

The 20-year old has gone down to 14th seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in a three-set battle.

After dropping the first set, Zheng battled back for a 6-4 second set victory, only to be overpowered in the third.

There were a couple of minor upsets in the 2nd round action from this morning.

Sweden's Johanna Larrson left the crowd at Flushing Meadows disappointed, upsetting home favorite and 21st seeded American Sloane Stephens in a 3-set battle.

Larrson will next have to face 6th seeded Serb Jelena Jankovic, who moved past an unseeded Bulgarian this morning in straight-sets.

Japan's Kurumi Nara, the 31st seed, has also been bounced early, going down to Switzerland's Belinda Bencic in a 3-set affair.

Bencic is going to have to face 6th seeded German Angelique Kerber, who cruised through an unseeded Russian in straight-sets.

Also through this morning is 2nd seeded Simona Halep, who, after a shakey start to her tournament in round 1, showed much stronger form in moving into round-3, dominating Slovakia's Jana Cepelova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.

It's 6th seeded Thomas Berdych through into the 2nd round, making quick work of Australian veteran Leyton Hewitt in straight-sets.

14th seed Marin Cilic is also through after Cypriot Marcos Baghdadis was forced to retire because of injury.

28th seeded Feliciano Lopez of Spain is also through after Croatian Ivan Dodig was forced to retire with an injury after taking Lopez into the 5th set tied at one-game a piece.
