CRI听力:Anti-corruption Priority for US at APEC: Official
A senior US official is suggesting anti-corruption is going to be a high priority for the US at this year's APEC meeting, which is going to be held in Beijing this November.
Robert Wang from the Department of State says APEC member countries have been building up a network to prevent both illegal funds and criminals from escaping the law by fleeing their respective countries.
"In the future, people who escape to another country with illegal funds will be returned eventually to their country. That's the goal of it."
Wang notes the US side has already prepared a set of guidelines its going to give to APEC countries when it comes to extroditing foreign criminal suspects from the United States.
At the same time, the Chinese government is also putting together workshops for law enforcement officials as to how law enforcement officials with APEC countries can work together in tracking down international criminal suspects.
There are an estimated 150 Chinese criminal suspects currently taking refuge in the United States, most of whom are wanted for corruption.
Over the past decade, Chinese police have only managed to bring back two fugitives to stand trial.
