CRI听力:Australian Prime Minister Visits India to Sign Uranium Deal
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is now in India for a two-day state visit. The trip will focus on a deal on uranium sales.
Earlier, Tony Abbott addressed his parliament on his visit.
"My hope is to deepen the friendship between Australia and India at a time of renewed optimism in India under the new government of Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi. I am hoping to sign a nuclear cooperation agreement that will enable uranium sales by Australia to India."
Meanwhile, Abbott has declared an official end to the uranium trade with Russia in response to a call from Australia's Green party.
The trip is Abbott's first visit to India as Australian Prime Minister.
After his first stop in Mumbai, Abbott will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
The pair is expected to sign a long-awaited nuclear cooperation agreement, reducing India's nuclear isolation.
Australia holds over one third of the world's uranium supply, exporting the product mostly to China, Japan, and the US.
