CRI听力:Xi Jinping Calls for Greater Respect for Teachers
Chinese President Xi Jinping is urging local governments to make teaching the most respected job in the country.
The Chinese President made the comment while visiting Beijing Normal University on the eve of the Teacher's Day which falls on today.
Xi Jinping promised education will be a priority with increased government input and more reform.
"Party committees and governments should recognize the crucial role of teaching from a strategic point. The authorities should offer support to teachers, raise their pay and protect their interests, so as to make teaching the most respected job in the country."
Xi Jinping adds that the income of teachers, especially those in rural and less developed regions, lags behind.
He says good teachers are the hope of a nation.
Government spending on education has accounted for 4 percent of GDP since 2012.
