2014-09-13来源:CRI

The Chinese government is calling on the Filipino government to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals living in the country.

Meanwhile, China's foreign ministry is warning this country's citizens not to travel to the Philippines for the time being.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying.

"Chinese government attaches great importance to the safety of overseas Chinese citizens. Given the current security situation in the Philippines, Consul department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs have issued travel alerts, advising Chinese citizens not to travel to the Philippines for the time being, and called for those in the country to be on alert."

The comment comes on word of the kidnapping of a young man, originally thought to be Chinese, from a store he operates in the southern Philippines.

Reports now suggest the 18-year-old is a South Korean national.
Filipino police have warned of planned attacks targeting Chinese nationals, the Chinese embassy and consulates as well as Chinese businesses in the country.
