Chinese President Xi Jinping says he's hoping to advance the strategic partnership between China and India as part of his current trip to the country.

CRI's Cao Yuwei has more.

Xi Hopes to Lift Strategic China-India Partnership to Higher Level

The Chinese President has taken part in a ceremonial reception at India's ornate Presidential Palace, where he has been greeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and President Pranab Mukherjee as well as key ministers from Modi's cabinet.

"China and India are the world's two largest developing countries and emerging markets. We're also two important forces in an increasingly multi-polar world. Therefore, our relationship has strategic and global significance. And if our two countries work for common development, we can bring benefit to the 2.5 billion people in China and India. We can bring prosperity to Asia, and we can create opportunities for the world."

For his part, Modi has suggested "China and India are of one mind with two bodies," saying the two countries share the same aspirations for development and have every reason to strengthen cooperation.

Xi Jinping, in addressing the ceremony, says he agrees with that position.

"During this visit, I hope to work with the Indian leadership to be strong advocates of China-India relations and to partner with each other to take our strategic and cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity to a higher plane."

Xi Jinping has arrived in Delhi after visiting Narendra Modi's home state of Gujarat.

Gujarat has been described as being on par with the southern Chinese province of Guangdong when it comes to development opportunities and economic growth.

The trip to India is Xi Jinping's first since taking office in March of last year.

It's also the first state visit by a Chinese president to India in 8-years.
