CRI听力:Typhoon Fung Wong Hits Zhejiang
Typhoon Fung-Wong has made landfall in east China's Zhejiang Province, bringing strong winds and rains.
With speeds reaching 28 meters per second, the typhoon landed in coastal areas of Xiangshan County of the port city of Ningbo last night.
The county has seen over 160 millimeters of rainfall.
Gao Chenyan, a reporter with Zhejiang Satellite TV, is in Xiangshan's Shipu area.
"Currently, all the reservoirs within Shipu have started to overflow. The situation is critical. Meanwhile, within the township, rivers have swelled, inundating houses along the river banks. Local authorities have already relocated the residents affected by the flood."
So far, the typhoon-triggered rain has flooded around 8,000 hectares of cropland in Xiangshan.
Over 250,000 people have been evacuated from homes across Zhejiang province, and over 32,000 ships have taken shelter at ports.
In Ningbo, flights were canceled and over 110 bus services were suspended.
All primary schools in the city will be closed until later today.
Over 3000 soldiers and rescue workers have been dispatched to the affected areas for relief work.
Typhoon Fung-Wong is expected to hit Shanghai this afternoon.
Local authorities are on standby to prevent rain-triggered floods.
