CRI听力:China Expresses Enthusiasm to Promote Cooperation with IAEA
In a note to the conference, Chinese Premiere Li Keqiang says China is striving to promote the safe and efficient use of nuclear energy world wide, and supports the noNPRoliferation of nuclear weapons.
China joined the International Atomic Energy Agency 30-years ago.
The head of China's Atomic Energy Authority, Xu Dazhe, says China is ready to expand its cooperation with the IAEA and other member states.
"China attaches great importance to IAEA's role in the field of nuclear energy, and has been supporting the IAEA's work. China accepts IAEA's supervision, and strictly complies with the principle of noNPRoliferation. China also promotes the safety use of nuclear power, and supports the IAEA's lead to ensure nuclear safety; provides assistance to emerging countries with nuclear power through financial support and personnel training."
As part of the session in Vienna, Iran is being called on to fully cooperate with U.N. nuclear watchdog's investigation into its disputed nuclear programme.
U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz.
"We call on Iran to cooperate fully with the IAEA to resolve all outstanding issues, particularly those to give rise to concerns regarding the possible military dimensions of Iran's nuclear programme."
Negotiators from Iran and the P5+1 are resuming their talks in New York after a two-month hiatus.
Meanwhile, Japan has reiterated it's commitment to restart all its nuclear power plants which are currently shut down.
IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano says strengthening nuclear safety will dispel concerns about nuclear energy.
"Nuclear safety is not simply about guarding against civilian natural hazards. In the coming years, we have to look at safety aspects of other important issues, including decommissioning old facilities, extending the operating life of existing nuclear power plants, disposing of high level radio active waste, and developing innovative technologies, such as fast reactors, and new small and medium sized reactors."
The meltdown of the Fukushima nuclear power plant after the tsunami in 2011 prompted the Japanese government to shut down all 48 of its nuclear reactors for safety upgrades.
The IAEA general conference runs till Friday.
