2014-09-29来源:CRI

Events have been held in Estonia and Sweden to mark the 20th anniversary of a deadly ferry sinking.

852 people lost their lives after the Estonia Ferry went down in the early-morning hours of September 28th, 1994, en route from Tallinn to Stockholm.

Only 138 people on the ferry survived.

"So it?s a manifestation I would say to kind of remember, keep us to remember that this really happened and also some kind of respect, especially for the relatives of people who did not survive this accident. Many groups of people need to have answers."

In Stockholm, survivors, relatives, government representatives and Sweden's King gathered by the Estonia monument to pay tribute to the victims.

Swedish Defense Minister Karin Enstrom.

"This catastrophe shows the need of, in an acute crisis situation, communication of correct and topical information to the grieving and to others affected."

The sinking of the Estonia Ferry remains one of the deadliest maritime accidents in the world since the end of World War II.
