CRI听力:UN Prosecutors Accuse Karadzic of “Driving Bosnia War Crimes”
War crimes prosecutors in The Hague are concluding their nearly 5-year old case against former Bosnian-Serb leader Radovan Karadzic.
In delivering their closing remarks in the case, prosecutors are describing Karadzic as the "driving force" behind the persecution of non-Serbs during the Bosnia war in the 1990s.
He is charged with a total of 11 crimes, including the most serious, genocide.
The genocide charge is connected to the killing of more than 8-thousand Muslim men and boys during the siege of the city of Srebrenica, which has been described as Europe's worst massacre since World War II.
Prosecutors are calling on the court to deliver a sentence of life imprisonment for the 69-year old.
UN prosecutor Alan Tieger.
"The systematic destruction of Muslim and Croat sacred sites was an integral element of a common plan to ensure that non-Serb communities coveted by the Bosnian Serb leadership were left without Muslims, Muslims and Croats who did not return."
Karadzic, who was arrested in 2008 in Belgrade, is expected to close his own defense later this week.
A verdict isn't expected for around another year.
