The British Air Force has launched its first air strikes against Islamic State targets in Iraq.
UK officials say the strikes attacked both a "heavy weapon position" and an armed pick-up truck in northwestern Iraq.
British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon.
"Well, I can confirm that the RAF were in action today in support of the Iraqi government in northwest Iraq. Two GR4 Tornadoes from RAF Akrotiri were tasked to assist Kurdish troops who were under attack by ISIL (Islamic State) terrorists. "
The US and its allies have been carrying out air strikes in Iraq since last month, targeting Islamic State militants, who have seized control of large swathes of both Iraq and Syria.
