CRI听力:Boko Haram Leader Abubakar Shekau Still Alive?
A video of a man claiming to be Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has been released, contradicting Nigerian military reports that he had been killed.
The footage shows a person wearing combat gear looking similar to the man claiming to be Shekau in previous videos.
When speaking to the camera, he made it very clear that he was and still alive and in control.
"So here I am alive. You talk so much about your killing me, but that is not the point, we are still in our Islamic caliphate reigning, we are doing the teachings of the Koran."
Nigeria's military said last week that the man who had been posing as Shekau in a number of videos, had been killed in clashes over the town of Konduga.
The military announced the death of Shekau a year ago, saying he had died in battle.
In a statement on its website, Nigeria's Defence Headquarters said the video did not indicate when it was shot, or provide any proof that Shekau was alive.
Boko Haram, whose violent five-year campaign for an Islamic state has killed thousands, has recently tried to seize territory in remote areas near the Cameroon border, a move possibly inspired by Sunni Islamist militants in Iraq and Syria.
