CRI听力:Rafael Nadal Loses His Opening Match at Shanghai Masters
The Shanghai Masters is heading into quarterfinal action later on today without one of the tournament's top contenders.
Spain's Rafael Nadal was handed a surprise loss yesterday in his opening match of the tournament, falling in straight-sets 6-3, 7-6 to Spanish compatriot Feliciano Lopez.
Nadal came down with acute appendicitis a few days ago, which left him bedridden and uncertain if he'd even be able to compete.
He was asked about when he might have his appendix removed.
"My feeling today and my answer today, honestly, is I am going to do it after the World Tour Final. But you never know, it depends how things improve. I want to do it at the end of the year, not now."
In other action from Shanghai,
Top seed Novak Djokovic has extended his unbeaten streak in China to 26 straight matches with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Dominic Thiem of Austria.
Sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych took out Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-1.
It was American Jack Sock defeating Japan's Kei Nishikori 7-6, 6-4.
Eighth seed Milos Raonic was forced to retire with an injury during his match against Juan Monaco of Argentina.
