U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has played host to an international donors conference for Gaza.

The UN chief has told those taking part the reconstruction of Gaza cannot be carried out in isolation from efforts to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Ban Ki-moon has managed to earn pledges worth a total of 5.4 billion U.S dollars to help rebuild the Gaza Strip.

"Today the international community clearly recognises the massive needs in Gaza and is understanding there is a commitment to act in a massive way. Second, there was a universal understanding that Gaza cannot be rebuilt on a weak political foundation, that is why the United Nations will continue to support the government of national consensus."

Qatar has been the biggest contrubutor, pleding a billion US dollars toward the reconstruction of GazaThe US and UAE have both pledged around 200-million each.

Palestinian Minister for National Economy Mohammed Mostafa:

"For us to say when this money will arrive is difficult because the parties that said they will commit to it did not provide a time of payment. However in the coming period we will - in the coming time - follow up with the parties in order to hasten the time of payment. From another side we know that the money issue takes time and therefore we will work on forming a fast initial program starting in the coming months in expectation of the money.”

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said Gaza needs around 4 billion US dollars to rebuild.
