CRI听力:Mainland Bans Taiwan Firm's Edible Oil Products

The mainland's decision comes after reports that a supplier of Cheng I, a subsidiary of food giant Ting Hsin International Group, was found to have labeled oil intended for animal feed as edible lard when importing it from Vietnam.

Cheng I was accused of irregularities during the production process.

The feed-grade oil contains harmful elements which may cause serious diseases.

In the meantime, in Taiwan, citizens have launched a campaign online boycotting against the edible oil products made by Ting Hsin.

"We have no confidence in them at all. This has been the third such case this year. Who dares to use their oil products?"

"I'm now very hesitant to buy as long as I see it's from Ting Hsin, or Wei-chuan."

This is the second such inferior oil case that's been exposed in Taiwan in around a month.

Last month, nearly 200 or more food producers in Taiwan were caught up in a "gutter oil" scandal, which triggered a huge row on the island.

In that case, Wei-Chuan, a company owned by Ting Hsin, was also involved.

Traders from Taiwan are so outraged, urging the public not to purchase Ting Hsin oil products.

"The reason why we are boycotting their products is so that these heartless traders will be taught a lesson. They'll know they shouldn't have done such a thing, which could badly affect people."

"Ting Hsin and Wei-chuan provided us with those kinds of products, making all our confidence disappear and harming the next generation. I think it's unnecessary for such insidious enterprises to exist at all."

The authorities in Taiwan say three people, including two that worked for Ting Hsin, have been detained for their suspected role in the case.

More than 3,600 tons of lard from Ting Hsin has been taken off shelves, and the authorities from 22 cities and counties have demanded that the sale of all Ting Hsin products is suspended.
