Red Cross says the Ebola outbreak in West Africa can be contained within four to six months, with the right course of action.

Elhadj As Sy is the Secretary-General of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

"So if one responds to (the) scale (of the epidemic), if good contact tracing is made, good isolation, good treatment of the cases which are confirmed; good, safe and dignified burials of deceased people, all of that accompanied by a community sensitisation to break the chain, it will be possible, as it was possible in the past, to contain this epidemic now within four to six month."

He made the comment at the humanitarian network's Asia-Pacific regional conference in Beijing.

The Ebola outbreak has killed more than 4,500 people so far this year.

The US, with three Ebola cases found in the country, is asking all travelers from Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea to fly into one of five airports for screening.

Thousands of healthcare workers attended an Ebola educational session in New York.

Meantime in Cuba, 91 doctors and nurses left for West Africa on Tuesday, raising the total number of Cuban medical workers in the region to nearly 400, the largest contribution by any single country.
