CRI听力:Ebola Vaccine Trials to Start in Switzerland This Week

2014-10-29来源:CRI

Testing of an experimental Ebola vaccine is set to start in Switzerland this week.

The World Health Organization is overseeing the testing.

WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic.

"This approval means that approximately 120 individuals in Lausanne will be used to trial these vaccines as volunteers. The trial is also ongoing in Mali, United Kingdom and United States. The vaccine is based on genetically modified chimpanzee adenovirus."

Those involved in the trial are going to be monitored for six months to determine both the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, Australia has announced its shutting its borders to people from the countries worst-hit by Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

Australian Immigration Minister Scott Morrison.

"These measures include temporarily suspending our immigration program, including our humanitarian program from EBV affected countries, and this means we are not processing any application from these affected countries."

The move has been criticized by Ebola-affected countries in West Africa, saying it stigmatizes healthy people and will only make it harder to fight the virus.

The decision comes on the heels of a U.S. military decision to quarantine its soldiers returning from an Ebola response mission at their base in Italy.
