CRI听力:Chinese Oil Platform Drills the Deepest Well in South China Sea
A Chinese oil platform has successfully drilled China's deepest well by using a sea mooring positioning system in the South China Sea.
The well was drilled by the oil platform "Nanhai NO.9", which belongs to the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), a state-owned company. Drilling was completed yesterday. The platform is one of only two in China capable of drilling in waters over 1000 meters deep.
Wu Zhiming is the director of the "Nan Hai No.9" drilling department.
"If the area we drilled proves to have commercial potential, it will be connected with other areas we've exploited, creating an integrated network of gas pipelines at depths ranging from 200 to 1,500 meters."
Located off southwest Hainan province, the depth of water at the well is 975 meters, while the deepest drilling spot reaches nearly 4 thousand meters below sea level.
