CRI听力:No Israel Charges over Gaza Flotilla Raid: ICC
The International Criminal Court has decided no charges will be laid in connection with Israel's raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla in 2010 that left 9 Turkish activists dead.
ICC chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda says despite a "reasonable basis" to believe war crimes had been committed, the court has to prioritize the larger-scale of the events.
"After carefully assessing all relevant considerations, I have concluded that the potential case or cases likely arising from an investigation into this incident would not be of sufficient gravity to justify further action by the court."
The lawyers who took the case to the ICC say they plan to appeal.
Israeli forces intercepted the flotilla of six ships trying to breach the Israeli blockade of Gaza at the end of May in 2010.
Israeli forces boarded one of the ships. Fighting then broke out, leaving 9 Turkish activists dead and 10 Israeli soldiers injured.
The incident created a huge rift between Israel and Turkey, who had been strong allies until that point.
