CRI听力:Putin Rules out Capital Controls for the Currency's Slide
Russian President Vladimir Putin said today he is hopeful that speculation against the ruble will stop soon.
Speaking at APEC, Putin also ruled out capital controls for Russia.
"We are not planning to limit capital movement. Today we witnessed speculative exchange rate jumps. But I believe it will stop soon, I mean what the central bank does as a reply to speculators' actions".
The ruble has slumped nearly 30 percent against the dollar and the euro this year, as plunging oil prices and Western sanctions over the crisis in Ukraine have shriveled Russia's exports and investment inflows.
Putin said there is no good reason for the currency's slide.
He added Russia plans to use part of its "sovereign reserves" to improve access to loans to draw foreign investment.
