CRI听力:High-stakes Diplomacy Continues as Iran Nuclear Deal Deadline Draws Near

2014-11-24来源:CRI

Little progress is being reported from this weekend's Iranian nuclear talks in Vienna, with just hours to go before the deadline for a deal hits.

Diplomats from Iran and the P5+1 grouping are still locked in a last-minute attempts to try to secure an agreement, or at least prevent the process from collapsing.

Sizable gaps reportedly remain on the key issue of how deeply Tehran will have to reduce its enrichment.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius is among those taking part in the talks.

"I am here to continue the negotiations. I won't anticipate the result, but we're continuing the work. We have a final deadline of tomorrow night to find an agreement, but it has to be positive and enables us to work for peace."

Iranian media outlets are quoting a member of the Iranian delegation as saying a full deal is "impossible" before today's deadline.

US officials, meanwhile, say they're still considering the possibility of extending the deadline.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is on his way to join the diplomats in Vienna later on this Monday.

The interim deal agreed to last year has seen Iran curb some of its uranium enrichment in return for limited sanctions relief.

If no deal can be reached and the talks are not extended, the full-thrust of sanctions against Iran will be restored, and Iran will be able to return to full uranium enrichment.
