2014-11-25来源:CRI

Rescue workers managed to arrive very quickly in Kangding county, which is a Tibetan region in central Sichuan, following Saturday's earthquake.

A 35-member rescue team of armed police arrived in Tagong township, the epicenter, just two hours after the quake hit.

A total of eleven medical teams are now in the region, consisting of around 10-thousand medical personnel.

All the search and rescue operations have been completed, with all the dead and injured believed to be accounted for.

Six of the survivors are in critical condition.

Five others are listed as serious.

Dorje is the head of a local hospital in Garze.

"We have rearranged the medical resources to free up around 40 beds for future patients. All patients will be treated as they come to try to expedite their medical care."

The quake damaged around 25-thousand homes.

Over 6-thousand people have been forced to relocate.

In the hard-hit village of Duola, those who have been relocated are being sheltered in tents and have been given quilts and food.

Mobile communications have also been restored.

Du Fang with the Sichuan earthquake center says the quake could have potentially been a lot more destructive.

"The epicenter is a known fault zone where earthquakes happen frequently. As such, a lot of attention has gone into home construction. At first glance, most homes appear to be built with stone. But, in fact, most are quake-proof wooden structures."

Both Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have been helping direct resources in the aftermath of the earthquake.

The central government has already earmarked 50 million yuan in relief funds for the disaster area.

More relief materials including tents, quilts and cotton-padded coats are also being sent in to the disaster area.
