CRI听力:Abbas Condemns Israel over Minister's Death
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is strongly condemning Israel after a Palestinian minister died in clashes with Israeli police in the West Bank.
"What happened today is a real crime, we cannot stand with patience or be silent about it. Therefore the leadership is meeting now to decide. I honestly say that all the options are on the table to discuss and implement".
The clashes erupted when Minister Ziad Abu Ein was heading to a demonstration against Jewish settlements, along with Palestinian and foreign activists.
An Israeli policeman was seen grabbing the minister's neck firmly with one hand.
Minutes later the minister looked faint and fell to the ground. He died on his way to hospital.
An autopsy is being carried out with Palestinian, Israeli and Jordanian experts present. The results are expected later today.
The incident comes at a time of heightened tension in the area, following months of violent unrest in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and the West Bank.
The Israeli military says it's investigating the circumstances that led to Abu Ein's death.
