CRI听力:EU Leaders Tighten Sanctions against Russia
European Union leaders are moving to tighten sanctions against Russia over the situation in Ukraine.
Discussions about more sanctions have been held at a one-day summit among EU leaders in Brussels.
French president Francois Hollande.
"When we decided to introduce sanctions against Russia, we were obviously hoping there would be consequences. Otherwise we should not have introduced them. So these sanctions are necessary and they have effects."
Under the new sanctions, all EU tour operators will be barred from operating in the Crimea, which Russia took control of from Ukraine earlier this year.
European investment into the annexed region is also being banned.
The EU leaders have also agreed to create a strategic investment fund worth some 315 billion euros in private and public-sector money to upgrade infrastructure and ignite job growth in Europe.
