CRI听力:Australia Police Arrest Two Men in Counterterrorism Investigation
Australian police have announced the arrest of a pair of men in a counter-terrorism investigation.
Authorities in Sydney say the suspects belong to a group plotting to kill a random member of the public.
20-year old Sulayman Khalid has been charged with possession of documents designed to facilitate an attack.
An un-named 21-year-old has been charged with breaching a control order.
Australian Federal Police Deputy Commissioner Michael Phelan.
"Certainly the documents talked a little bit about potential government targets and so on, and what that did, coupled with other things that were seized during the search warrant, gave us significant concern to be able to act early."
Police in Australia say no specific threat was made.
The suspects had apparently been under surveillance since September, following a series of raids.
The arrests come on the heels of Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot warning this week of heightened extremist chatter in the aftermath of the Sydney café hostage taking which left three people dead, including two of the hostages.
