CRI听力:Actor Common Reacts to Best Picture Nomination for His Film "Selma"
American rapper and actor Common, whose film "Selma" has been nominated for Best Picture, says he's excited yet slightly disappointed about the nods.
Common appears in the film, and also recorded the nominated end-credits song "Glory" with singer John Legend.
He had just spoke on the phone to the film's director Ava DuVernay after the results.
"She sounded like she was in a strong place. She said hey, let's celebrate. Make sure you celebrate. Because you are representing our film and 'Glory' is important to our film, and we are nominated for best picture. So we have to also acknowledge and be positive in the victory of being nominated for best picture. Of course there's disappointment that we wanted David Oyelowo and Ava to be nominated."
Industry observers have speculated that "Selma" may have been hurt in its Oscar campaign by public critiques of its historical accuracy.
Selma is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by Martin Luther King, Jr, who's birthday came on the exact day of the Oscar nominations.
