CRI听力:Tsipras Sworn in as Greek Prime Minister

2015-01-27来源:CRI

Greece's radical left leader Alexis Tsipras has been sworn in as the country's new prime minister after forming a surprise alliance with a small right-wing nationalist party called Independent Greeks.

The 40-year-old broke with tradition and took a secular oath rather than the Greek Orthodox religious ceremony with which prime ministers are usually sworn in.

European Union leaders have given their reactions to the country's election results since Tsipras' party Syriza has always wanted to overhaul the country's bailout program.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

"It is a common rule and common sense that the Commission has to work closely together with whatever government a country has and that is what we are doing with Greece."

European Parliament President Martin Schulz says the election result signal major change in Greece and a subsequent impact on Europe, but that existing agreements should be adhered to for the sake of stability.

Syriza is calling on the eurozone to ease the spending cuts and tax increases required in Greece's bailout program and a lightening of the country's rescue loans.

The debt is at a level many economists think is unsustainable.

Tsipras' anti-bailout party gained the backing needed to form a government by obtaining the support of Independent Greeks, which took 4.7 percent of the votes.

Syriza won 36 percent of the vote in Sunday's early general elections but fell two seats short of a majority in the 300-seat parliament to form a government on its own.
